Langdon #74A (ca. 1940’s)

The unique aspect of this particular specimen that gives reason to believe that it dates from the very late 1930’s or sometime in the 1940’s is the use of Oilite bronze bearings in the saw guide heads. It is otherwise similar in every respect to the 1071A which uses ball bearings in the saw guides instead.

The 1938 catalog advertises the ball bearings as the latest new feature, whereas the 1949 catalog is presently the earliest known to us to advertise Oilite bronze bearings. Whether Oilite was introduced earlier than this, during wartime production, is still being researched.
