Langdon #74C (1959, 1960)

This particular specimen, from the site author’s collection, was obtained at an estate sale. The “before” picture shows the condition in which it was found; the remaining photos illustrate what a little elbow grease, a wire brush and a touch of spray paint can do to resurrect such a fine tool. The date stamp under the swing arm is 12 59. Another identical model was subsequently obtained at a different but nearby yard sale in equally neglected condition. Its casting is dated 12 60.

This particular style of Langdon mitre box, which emerged after World War II, remained in production without further modification until production ceased entirely in the early 1980’s.
