Here are some intriguing photos of an early Langdon that appears to be made of solid metal.
The writing that has been cast into the narrow upper edge of the backstop says simply: “Langdon M. Box. Co. Millers Falls Mass Pat”.
One wonders whether it is a remnant of some version of the miter box described and illustrated in the following page from the May 11, 1867 issue of Scientific American.
